PANJIM: After managing to grab the Public Works Department (PWD) portfolio, MGP scored another win when its first-time Sanvordem MLA Dipak Prabhu Pawaskar was appointed as Chairman of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) – the agency that had been at loggerheads with PWD headed by MGP Minister during the previous term of the BJP-MGP government.
While the order is yet to be issued, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday announced who will head the corporations.
During the earlier term, Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar who was PWD minister then, was not happy with the manner in which all major infrastructure projects were allotted to GSIDC, which was headed by BJP MLA Pramod Sawant. Right from construction of the third bridge over River Mandovi to renovation of the Dona Paula-Miramar road to several other bridges and reconstruction of school complexes, all the projects were handled by GSIDC. With Dhavalikar back as PWD Minister and GSIDC with a MGP MLA, the tension between the ministry and the corporation should end.
The government is, however, yet to decide on who will head the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) and South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA). NGPDA was earlier chaired by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, who is Deputy Speaker now but insisting on it. On the other hand, SGPDA was with Mauvin Godinho, who is now a minister.
“There are few other corporations, in regards to which the decision has not been taken. The final order will be issued next week latest by Tuesday,” Parrikar said.
