PONDA: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar on Thursday questioned the State government move to construct 100 metres width road from Dhargal to Mopa International Airport.

Addressing the media persons, Dhavalikar informed that earlier the Central government considering request from the State government had sanctioned 40 metres width road as highway in Goa and also road for proceeding towards the Mopa Airport.
He disclosed that even the State government had taken a special permission from the Union Ministry for 40-metre width road at Mopa.
He said, “Not more than 60 metres land should be acquired.”
“The farmers should be compensated with an alternative farmland. The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant is saying that the government will give three times compensation. But by merely giving the compensation, the issues will not be solve,” he added.
He asked, “Suppose the road was passing from the Chief Minister’s residence and was getting three times more compensation, will he remain quiet just because he is getting the compensation.”
“How the BJP government is going to make the farmers Atmanirbhar by taking vast land of farmers for the government projects,” Dhavalikar questioned.
He said, “The government should provide justice to the 300 agitating Mopa farmers and their families, who are coming on the road and fighting for their rights.”
“At Mopa, almost around 2 lakh sq mts land with 100 metres width for road is been acquired. If the government is acquiring the farmers land then the government should gave them alternative land. Further, it will take 25 years to make it cultivatable and get farm produce from it,” Dhavalikar said.
He said, “Except sugarcane, the fruits like mango, coconut and the bagayat crops take several years to produce. The government should also compensate the farmers for this 25 years period till they get farm produce.”
