Mhadei Water Dispute topmost priority: Parrikar

PANJIM: Stating that solution to the ongoing crisis surround
dissolution of Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) would be his topmost
priority, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured that the ‘State interest
would be protected’.

Speaking to media persons post winning Trust Vote on the
Floor of the House, Parrikar said that he will work our solution to the Mhadei
tribunal crisis. “I will tell you exactly what government has done on the
matter next week. But I ensure that we will continue our battle. Will ensure
that the State interest is protected,” he said refusing to comment anything in
detail.

Chief Minister was asked about the dissolution of MWDT with
introduction of bill in the Parliament to have common permanent Inter-State
River water dispute tribunal and about withdrawal of permission to Addiitonal
solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni to appear on behlf of State before
tribunal.

Meanwhile, highly placed sources have confirmed that the
Prime Ministerial Office through a verbal communication to Chief Minister has
accepted their plea to allow Nadkarni to continue representing Goa before
MWDT.

Last month Union Ministry for Law had withdrew permission to
Additional Solicitor General citing clash of interest. Accordingly, the State
government had written letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his
intervention in the matter.

The MWDT is currently on one year extension upto August.
