Mickky arrested, released in forgery case

It was a day when former tourism minister Mickky Pacheco’s 14-day judicial custody with the Crime Branch finally ended on Friday morning, but not before the MLA had to spend a couple of hours in the custody of the Margao police following his sudden arrest in the 2008 forgery case lodged by her estranged wife, Sara.
It was only later in the evening that Pacheco was re-lodged at the Sada Sub Jail, Vasco after Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao ordered his release in the forgery case upon furnishing bail of Rs 10,000, with directions not to leave the country and to make himself available before the police for investigations.
In another development, the South Goa Sessions Court this evening granted interim anticipatory bail to the former minister, with the court directing the police not to arrest him till Tuesday, pending hearing of his anticipatory bail applications. Pacheco approached the Sessions Court fearing arrests by the police in the criminal cases registered against him at the Margao, Colva and Quepem police stations.
The former tourism minister was taken into custody by the Margao police no sooner the JMFC remanded him to 14 days judicial custody. Armed with a transfer warrant, a team of Margao police brought the former minister to Margao Police Station and arrested him in the forgery and cheating case lodged by his estranged wife Sara. The Margao police had in 2008 registered a case of forgery and cheating after Sara complained that Pacheco allegedly forged his power of attorney and transferred her property. He, however, was released on bail later in the evening and later taken back to the Sada Sub Jail.
In his anticipatory bail applications, Pacheco has feared that he may be arrested by the police in forgery cases registered at the Margao and Quepem police stations following complaints lodged by his estranged wife Sara. Sources said the criminal case pertaining to the Colva Police Station relates to Section 353 and 501 (ii) of the IPC.
