Former Minister Mickky Pacheco has urged the Goa government to review the installation of traffic signals and AI-based surveillance cameras across the state, saying unnecessary traffic control measures are causing inconvenience to commuters.
In a memorandum submitted to the Transport Department and the Transport Minister, Pacheco called for an assessment of existing traffic signals to identify locations where they may be unnecessary or counterproductive.
He said traffic signals installed at such locations should be removed to improve the smooth flow of vehicles and reduce congestion on busy roads. According to Pacheco, a scientific review of traffic management infrastructure would help enhance road efficiency and minimise inconvenience to motorists.
Pacheco also sought a review of the deployment of AI surveillance cameras, urging the authorities to ensure that traffic management measures are implemented in a manner that balances road safety with the convenience of commuters.
The memorandum comes amid growing public debate over traffic management systems in Goa, particularly following concerns raised over the impact of newly installed traffic signals at several junctions across the state.
