MARGAO: Margao Town Police on Friday raided a mini casino that was being operated near Gandhi Market and have arrested 10 people and one person has been identified.
The mini casino was being operated in Lotlikar Building near the Kurade soda factory wherein roulette game known as “win lucky” was played. The police have arrested 29-year-old Rajesh Naik for using the said premises as a common gaming house on behalf of his employer Rajesh Naik, who is a resident of Ambaji.
The police also arrested Pramodh Rabha, native of Assam; Rahul Gaud, native of Uttar Pradesh; Santosh Joshi, resident of Station Road, Margao; Santosh Nair, native of Kerala; Prakash Singh, native of Madhya Pradesh; Uellappa Sheludi, native of Karnataka; Laxman Singh, native of Sikar; Gobi C, native of Tamil Nadu and Sadik Vilamulli, native of Kerala, who were playing the game.
The police recovered Rs 80,590 from them and 11 Lenovo computers each worth around Rs 25,000, one internet modem along with a router and two WiFi dongles all together worth around Rs 10,000. They have also been booked for violating the curfew orders issued by the Collector to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
The mini casino was in fact discovered when the police were on routine patrol for violations of the curfew and seeing a crowd at that particular place checked it up to discover the mini casino operating.
While the raid was supervised by Superintendent of Police South Pankaj Kumar Singh, it is now being investigated by Police Sub-Inspector Vishwajit Dhavalikar.
