BICHOLIM: Angry parents and students from Mayem and Poira on Tuesday agitated and kept the mining company officials locked in the cabin for about three hours over the unavailability of company buses for the students.
There are around 100 students from Mayem and Poira studying in schools at Bicholim and all these years, the mining company was providing them with three buses that transported the students during morning and in the afternoon.
On Monday, without any prior intimation, the company stopped the bus service and so many of the students got late to school. Angry that the mining companies stopped transporting their children to schools, the angry parents and students marched to the company office to question the officials as to why they discontinued the bus service.
The three officials who were present at the site were unable to answer the queries put forth by the people. As the people were not satisfied with the answers given by the officials they locked them in the cabin for about three hours.
In the evening the deputy collector, Pradeep Naik convened a meeting of the stake holders and ordered the company to continue with the bus service immediately.
