Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said mining will be restarted after five months. It will take about four months to do the auctioning and to get environment clearances, he estimated. He said the mines will be auctioned in blocks and not lease-wise since the ECs are clubbed. On the question of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, the Chief Minister also batted for local miners and said as per the MMDR act blocks of over 10 km cannot be auctioned. He added that if local miners had done mining in a transparent manner they will be given the opportunity. He also said that smaller leases will go for small miners.
