MARGAO: Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardessai on Tuesday launched the ‘Homestead Garden’ scheme by distributing 450 fruit bearing trees including 100 coconut saplings to the people of Fatorda constituency and said all the MLAs will be given such trees to be distributed freely to people in their constituencies.
Under the scheme every MLA is given 1000 plants to be distributed to the people. The fruit bearing trees available are cocum, lime, guava which are all layers along with Benaulim variety coconut saplings; some mango grafts will also be provided to each MLA.
“The people will come to us for advice regarding the maintenance and upkeep of the plant and that’s how we shall monitor the health of the plants distributed under this scheme,” said Zonal Agriculture Officer Margao Anil Noronha.
