PANJIM: Minister for Transport Mauvin Godinho has pulled up officials of Transport Department after it was brought to his notice the distress caused to citizens as the paper work was being asked to submit physically despite availability of online, hassle-free service.
During the meeting held with Director Transport and other officials, the minister was informed that the staff are still being trained for shift from offline to online system of working and the department will hold orientation sessions in each office shortly.
It was also decided to set up Common Service Centres (CSC) counters in the villages to promote self-employment and provide service at door step.
Media has exposed how the Transport Department’s Parivahan/Sarathi portal, despite filling a form online, uploading the required documents and making an online payment, still requires applicants for basic services to visit the office and submit physical copies of all documents.
“An incident was brought to my notice with regards to applications submitted online (e-service) via the Vahan portal. Distress was caused to citizens as the paperwork was being asked to be physically submitted after online applications were rejected at the department office in Panjim,” Godinho said in a public notice issued on his twitter account.
During the meeting, Godinho said that he re-emphasised that the inconvenience caused to Goenkars is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“We are in the digital age and the welfare and convenience of our citizens is our utmost priority,” he said informing that with the shift from offline to online the staff is being trained to further hone their skills for the modern world.
Minister has issued directions to NIC, Secretary Transport and Director Transport to complete the ongoing work of auto e-services where there is minimum interface of employees and citizens.
