Minister seeks report on inundating Mormugao, Margao municipal buildings

Both the incidents reported on May 20 following unseasonable rainfall

PANJIM: Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane has sought report of incidents of rain water inundating Mormugao municipal building and leaking of Margao municipal building last week.

It is learnt that Rane has asked the Directorate of Urban Development to submit report of the leakage to the Margao municipal building while, the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) has been asked to submit report regarding the inundating the top floor of the Mormugao municipal building, which is currently under repairs and renovation.

Both the incidents were reported on May 20 following unseasonable rainfall. 

It may be recalled that Mormugao Municipal Chairperson Damodar Kaskar had blamed the contractor for negligence while undertaking repair and renovation work. But it is learnt that the Mormugao Municipal Council delayed in shifting the offices of the deputy collector and mamlatdar and the municipal library situated on the first floor to an alternate place. 

The sources said that the contractor M/s Shivam Infotech, Ponda cannot be held responsible for negligence which caused damaged to the building due to seeping of water on the top floor since till date the contractor had not undertaken the repair work of the roof. The contractor has so far repaired the municipal school premises, which is likely to be opened from this academic year. 

M/s Shivam Infotech, Ponda has been awarded the work of repair and renovation of the Mormugao municipal building at an estimated cost of Rs 9.27 crore.
