Minor rape victim, accused were living with families in same house

Medical exam confirms rape; Accused gets 4 days police custody

PANJIM: The rape of the minor girl at a parlour in St Inez, Panjim, has taken a new twist.
Investigations have established that the 14-year old rape victim and the person accused of the rape were residing in the same rented house with their families for a couple of months and both are distant relatives.
The incident came to light after the girl’s father, who works in the same beauty parlour as the accused, filed a complaint at Panjim Police Station after the victim complained to him about the incident.
Police sources said that accused Zakir Ali (22) of Uttar Pradesh, who was arrested late Wednesday night, confessed to having a physical relationship with the victim but denied having raped her on Wednesday.
A medical examination conducted at GMC confirmed the rape but police are yet to receive the report to establish the time of the rape.
Panjim police said the accused has been remanded to four days police custody for further interrogation. According to witnesses on record, the accused and the victim were in the staff room, but police said that the CCTV footage from the parlour is yet to be recovered to corroborate the incident.
“Primarily rape has been established in the medical examination. Further investigations will be conducted as per the accusations in the complaint,” Panjim police said.
Police have charged the accused under relevant sections of IPC, Goa Children’s Act and POSCO.
