MARGAO: In keeping with the Gram Panchayat Development Plan prepared by the Village Development Committee of Chandor-Cavorim Village Panchayat, Ganv Bhavancho Ekvott, an NGO from the village donated convex mirrors to the panchayat and water filter to the Anganwadi centre.
“Road safety is an integral part of the village development and we want our roads to be safe for the villagers who are facing a lot of difficulties due to the trucks plying in the village and hence we donated the mirrors to the panchayat,” said GBE General Secretary Alzira Pereira.
Five convex mirrors were handed over by three members of the organisation to the Sarpanch Edward D’Silva in the presence of Deputy Sarpanch Arlinda Tereza and former sarpanch Celina Furtado.
The sarpanch thanked GBE for the mirrors and said they will be fixed where there are sharp turns in the village to enable motorists to see the oncoming vehicles.
GBE also donated a water filter to the Anganwadi centre in the village where over 20 children come every day and they had to depend on the PWD supplied water. “With the water filter, the children will now get pure water,” said Elizabeth, who looks after the centre.
