MARGAO:  Notification to erect speed breakers on the Curtorim-Macazana road near the Our Lady of Carmel School, Curtorim was issued on November 12, 2012 with the avowed objective to regulate traffic on the busy road.
Sadly, just a day after the authorities finally erected the speed breakers near the Our Lady of Carmel High school, Curtorim, unknown miscreants last night damaged the traffic signals cautioning motorists of the speed breakers ahead. The incident triggered outrage as the school authorities and the locals had to literally run from pillar to post to get the authorities erect the speed breakers near the school.
Chaplain of Our Lady of Carmel Chapel, Fr Edmund Barretto told Herald that the miscreants have damaged and removed the three sign boards after 12 midnight.
“All of us had got the speed breakers installed after knocking the doors of the authorities concerned for the last one year. The speed breakers were required because around 600 students are studying in the Our Lady of Carmel High School in addition to the location of the Chapel near the road,” Fr Barretto said, while demanding action against the miscreants.
Fr Barretto said he has asked a panch to lodge a complaint with the police against the unknown miscreants and book the accused. “The miscreants had no reason to damage and remove the signboards. We do not know what purpose the miscreants have achieved by damaging the signboards,” Fr Barretto added.
