Mizoram police seek production warrant to question parlour owner

PANJIM, OCT 13
Mizoram police has sought production warrant to bring the owner of the raided Porvorim beauty parlour Mahalaxmi Mishra to Aizwal for questioning, a senior officer said.
Sources informed that Mishra, who is booked for allegedly pushing four Mizo girls into prostitution, is now wanted by Aizwal police.
The Women and Child protection unit team busted an inter-state flesh trade racket at ‘Lotus beauty parlour’ on Saturday and rescued 11 girls who are reportedly victims of human trafficking.
While, the rescued victims are lodged at Merces protective home, five boys including the parlor owner Mishra were arrested.
The alleged accused are booked for trafficking and forcing the girls in flesh trade, have applied for bail at Children’s Court.
The raid was executed as three Mizoram girls spilled beans on the lady owner had left the work on October 4 and reportedly informed Mizoram NGO and police about the illegal activities here.
On the contrary, Mishra had filed a complaint with Porvorim police accusing all the three girls of ‘chewing tobacco and drinking beer because of which they were rusticated.’ Ironically, the complaint was filed five days after the girls fled to Mizoram.
Incidentally, Mizoram police in a similar action back there had rescued 10 girls and arrested three people, who wanted to send them to Goa. As both the information came at same time, Mizoram police flashed a letter to Goa counterpart.
However, the main accused is still absconding, the source stated. “The girls were hired by a man called Vanlalaruati and few others who promised them of jobs in beauty parlours in Goa as beauticians,” said the source.
While, four are Mizo girls, six other girls rescued during the raid hail from Nagaland and one from Belgaum.
