PANJIM: Former minister and independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Sunday accused BJP led government of trying to keep deserving people out of fray from the upcoming Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections, through seat reservation tactics.
Khaunte tweeted “BJP’s game plan to keep deserving people from contesting the Zilla Parishad elections is out in the open now. One should never underestimate the power of people and democracy.”
“Elections must be fought on causes and work done for the people. Cunning tactics to derail the results by the government must be resisted,” he tweeted further.
Penha-de-Franca ZP seat, which is currently ruled by Khaunte backed candidate, is been reserved for Women from Other Backward Class.
Total 30 seats, out of 50, are reserved for various sections including Women, Schedule Tribes, Schedule Caste and Other Backward Class.
The reservations notified by the government, are also been strongly opposed by Congress, alleging that the process is been conducted without any criteria.
Party alleged that Congress strongholds constituencies have been reserved, just to restrict our winnable candidate from contesting.
Not just opposition, but BJP is facing the hit within. Its MLA Clafasio Dias has slammed government for reserving Guirdolim ZP for Women for the third consecutive term. He has even threatened to resign from the party.
