MARGAO: The carnival celebrations in Margao were flagged off with a message of King Momo urging the people and tourists to help Tourism Department to keep the State green and clean, on Sunday.

Followed by intruz, the floats parade was held on the Fatorda Ravindra Bhavan route. Since Quepem had its own official celebration of carnival followed by a float parade the crowd in Margao was relatively low and most from the villages near Quepem got an opportunity to view the parade in their home town.
The District Administration has been commended for having being prepared for the celebration in a matter of 24 hours.
The floats while making way to Quepem via Eastern Bypass Road had troubles travelling across at major inter-sections. The prompt action by police helped the floats reach Quepem on time. The King Momo urged the people of Goa and tourists to help the Tourism Department to keep Goa green and clean for generations to come.
Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar off stage wished the people of Goa Viva Carnival.
He said that after long time Quepem organise an official carnival and also the traditional khell tiatr in all the wards of Quepem.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said, “Our Government and their agents tried a lot to make sure that the float parade did not happen in Fatorda. If they had tried in protecting Mhadei our lifeline it would have been saved for Goans.”
Vijai further said that the traditional carnival route of Panjim became a traditional chaos making the government a laughing stock.
