MLA demands CCTV footage of incident

Speaker disallows stating that ‘such a request could not be a part of House proceedings’

PORVORIM: Strongly condemning the action of Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar against him, Independent MLA and former revenue minister Rohan Khaunte demanded that he should be provided CCTV footage of the incident involving him and the complainant, and also the copy of mid-night letter by police seeking permission for his arrest.
Khaunte was arrested and later bailed out on Wednesday for allegedly threatening BJP Goa spokesman Premanand Mahambrey in the premises of State Legislative Assembly.
When the session resumed on Friday, the United Opposition led by Leader of Opposition continued disrupting House proceedings seeking justice and action against the complainant for false complaint.
Khaunte demanded that the Speaker should provide CCTV footage of the incident involving him and the complainant, and also the copy of mid-night letter by police seeking permission for his arrest.
He said that a letter signed by all 10 Opposition MLAs including that of Congress, Goa Forward Party and MGP, is already been submitted to the Speaker seeking details.
Khaunte said that the incident of his arrest was serious and “it might be repeated with any other MLA, or Zilla Panchayat member or Sarpanch or any common man in future”.
“Today I am the victim of undemocratic action, tomorrow it may be someone else amongst us sitting in the House,” MLA said.
The Speaker, however, disallowed the demand stating that “such a request could not be a part of House proceedings”.
