The Mormugao Municipal Council has commenced work on a gas-fired crematorium machine at Vasco in the presence of Krishna Salkar.
Speaking on the occasion, Salkar said the crematorium machine was procured under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and described it as an environmentally friendly step aimed at reducing dependence on firewood during cremations. He added that the gas-fired system would provide a more affordable alternative for people performing final rites.

MMC Chairperson Girish Borker stated that construction work on the shed for the crematorium has already begun and assured that the machine would become operational soon.
Councillor Yatin Kamurlekar said the shed construction is expected to be completed within two months, after which the crematorium facility would be ready for use.
Meanwhile, Councillor Damodar Naik said that if the gas-fired crematorium proves successful at Vasco, a similar facility could also be introduced at the Bogda Hindu Crematorium.
