The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) is set to roll out a series of revenue-enhancing measures inspired by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), following a recent study visit undertaken by MMC officials.
The delegation included MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar, Chief Officer Sidhivinayak Naik, Councillor Deepak Naik, and several other councillors. The visit aimed to understand best practices in municipal administration, tax collection, and urban management implemented by the BMC.

Chairperson Borkar stated that the study tour provided valuable insights into how large urban bodies efficiently manage their finances and services. He noted that several Central Government buildings in Vasco have not been paying municipal taxes, leading to substantial revenue losses for the Council.
“We are exploring BMC’s model to adopt similar measures that will improve financial accountability, enhance tax collection, and strengthen overall municipal efficiency,” Borkar said.
He added that the MMC is committed to ensuring better governance, transparency, and sustainable urban development in the Mormugao region by modernizing its administrative and financial systems.
