MMC chief calls for completing 4-lane road within 3 months

Margao Municipal Chairperson Sushila Naik on Thursday evening has called for completion of the work on the four-lane road from Navelim Church to flyover traffic junction within three months.
After inspecting the ongoing work on the road this evening, the MMC Chairperson said the contractor has been told to complete work on the one lane before Christmas.
Making her presence felt at the ongoing work carried out by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, Naik said she has inspected the road work being the first citizen of the City.
“The work is being undertaken by the GSIDC at a cost of Rs 6.9 crore. But, being the first citizen, I have inspected the works and set the deadline to the contractor”, she said.
Sources in the know said the chairperson inspected the road works following instructions from the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, who has left for Delhi on Thursday.
While the chairperson was leaving the spot after the inspection accompanied by the local citizens, former chairperson Savio Coutinho came on the scene and drew the attention of the chairperson to the unmotorable condition of the road, connecting the internal roads.
The chairperson’s visit assumes significance after the common man raised a hue and cry over the hotmixing work, saying the hot mix is being laid without doing proper soling.
The contractor, however, has told Coutinho that the hot mix is being laid on the new road after following all road construction norms and as per the specifications laid down by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.
