MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Pooja Naik displayed graciousness by permitting the organisers of the furniture fair for the feast of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception time till Monday to seek MMC’s permission to have the fair of furniture on SGPDA grounds at Old Market.
The fair for the feast has been permitted near the newly commissioned St Francis Xavier Chapel near the Kadamba bus stand.
However, surprisingly the furniture dealers put up their stalls and wares on the SGPDA grounds having received permission from SGPDA to utilize their grounds but without obtaining permission from MMC to have their stalls there.
This morning Pooja along with MMC officials inspected the site and established that the furniture stalls were put up without MMC permission and hence were liable to be closed down. However, following a plea from the furniture dealers, Pooja allowed them to keep their stalls provided they apply for MMC permission tomorrow.
