PANJIM: A day after Goa Forward Party (GFP) MLA Vinod Palyekar claimed to have submitted a ‘secret’ report to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on politician-police-drug nexus, the Goa police has sought a copy of the report from the former minister.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jaspal Singh in a letter to Palyekar on Sunday said that State police have adopted a zero tolerance policy against drug trafficking and has never wavered from taking action against such traffickers.
“The continuous police action has drastically reduced both, the supply and demand side of drug trafficking,” IGP said adding that number of seizures and arrests have been made by district police, crime branch and Narcotic cell of Goa police, this year and in past as well.
In the letter, IGP has said that he has come to know from media reports about submission of secrete report to Prime Minister regarding alleged drug peddling in certain areas within Siolim constituency.
“You as an enlightened legislator have taken the lead and I appreciate that. However, it would have been more appropriate if a copy of the same would have been shared in confidence with senior police officials,” Singh said.
“I would therefore request you to make available a copy of your letter to us to enable us to identify such elements and initiate due legal action against them,” he added.
“You will also appreciate that quick sharing of such information helps police take action against such anti-social elements,” he stated.
“Therefore, I am sure and certain that as a concerned citizen and a thoughtful lawmaker, you definitely help police in identifying such elements to wipe out the menace of drugs from our beautiful State by sharing copy of your letter written to Prime Minister,” he added.
