MMC fails to bar access to Kossambe terrace

VASCO: The memory of the 7-year-old boy dying after falling from the terrace of the Kossambe building is still fresh in the minds of locals. However, despite the tragedy which occurred a few months ago during the Vasco Saptah; the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) is yet to take any action to block the entry points.
Vasco DySP Vasco Sunita Sawant had also instructed MMC to close the entry to the terrace of the building.
MMC Chief Officer, Gaurish Sankhwalkar said that efforts were taken by the MMC initially to put up gates to the terrace but things did not materialise due to financial difficulties.
Furthermore, he revealed that there are few buildings of the municipality, which have been declared as dilapidated structures and the occupants have been asked to vacate the building but that the people are not ready to do that. “However, the process of vacating such premises is in progress,” he added.
