PORVORIM: The appointment of an advisor for the master plan of the Mapusa municipal market and a plan to renovate the Bodgeshwar Temple at a cost of Rs 15 lakh were some of the decisions taken at a recent meeting of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC).
A resolution, proposed by Sudhir Kandolker, was also passed unanimously to demand special status to Goa.
MMC Chairman Sandeep Falari stated that a decision was taken in this meeting to appoint an advisor to prepare the master plan for the municipal market and other developmental works. The MMC also decided to erect ‘Welcome’ signboards at the entry points along various routes leading to Mapusa. “These signboards will be erected free of cost by Sion and Allied Traders,” said Falari.
“The renovation of the old St Mary High School building, where the MMC administration offices will be shifted, has already commenced and will be completed at the earliest,’ Falari added.
He informed that as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Renewal Mission Scheme, the MMC has been sanctioned Rs 27 crore and has decided to buy and introduce city buses in areas such as Kamarkhanjan, Akai, Camurli, etc, where transportation facilities are not available.
During this meeting, it was decided not to increase the ‘Sopo’ fee for the next five years for those taxis, rickshaws and the motorcycles who make use of the renovated taxi stand. The present monthly sopo fees are Rs 150 (taxi), Rs 75 (rickshaw) and Rs 50 (motorcycle).
Falari also mentioned that the MMC has decided to renovate the Bodgeswar Temple by spending Rs 15 lakh.
Councillors, Adv Subhash Narvekar, Ashish Shirodker, Sudhir Kandolker, Gurudas Vaiganker, Manisha Kavleker, Ilma Braganza, Subhash Kalangutker and Deepak Mhadesri participated in the discussions. Roopa Bhakta did not attend the meeting.
