MARGAO:  Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has said the Tiatr fraternity should draw a line and should not allow the medium to settle political scores or personal issue, while reminding the government that they are functioning in a democracy.
Commenting on the arrest of noted tiatrist Francis de Tuem by Verna police on a complaint from Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco, the Fatorda MLA said the government has reacted in an intolerant manner, where a cultural personality was not only arrested but jailed.
“Tiatr is a means of expression of Goan culture. It sends a social message. But happened on Friday was bad. Because Tiatr is now converted into a medium to settle personal scores and settle personal issue.”
“We have to ask ourselves a question as to where are we heading? Should the tiatr stage be used to check the biological birth of people or to malign someone’s family or should a cultural artist be arrested from a venue by the police machinery? the Fatorda MLA  questioned.
