MARGAO: A massive illegal encroachment by migrants in a paddy field at Colmorod, Navelim got exposed when Margao Municipal Council officials inspected the site, on Tuesday.
The landowner has demanded strict and immediate action against the illegal activities by the migrants.
The landowner Xavier Gomes has alleged that several illegal huts have been come up in this locality in recent years. Reportedly, a few days before a group of citizens from Navelim had also urged the concerned authorities to act against the illegal huts at Colmorod.
Speaking to the media persons, the landowner, Xavier Gomes, claimed that several illegal huts have been built by the migrants in his paddy field.
“I have shown my documents to the MMC and urged the officials to act against the illegal encroachment. All these illegal huts have been built by the migrants in recent years,” he stated.
He informed that he was planning to cultivate and had already booked the tractor, however upon the visit found major encroachment in the field.
“Besides, land filling has been done by the migrants. These huts are made of concrete but without any legal documents. However, they have taken water and electricity connections. I don’t know why action is not being taken against the illegal huts, despite the complaint before the District Collector’s office?” he questioned.
Xavier claimed that migrants are threatening him. “I urged the MMC to demolish these illegal huts at earliest,” he demanded.
The occupant of one of the illegal structures Mohammad Jaffar also admitted that they don’t have any legal documents with them.
