MAPUSA: Taking cognisance of the increasing number of complaints pouring against the pay parking contractor for allegedly overcharging motorists, the Mapusa Municipal Council issued a show cause notice him for violating the terms and conditions of the contract.
Motorists alleged that they were charged Rs 50 for parking of four-wheelers instead of Rs 20 while two-wheeler riders were made to cough Rs 20 instead of Rs 10.
“Before issuing the new contract for pay parking, all the legalities were clearly mentioned to him and if the contractor is found violating the terms and conditions of the contract then it can be terminated as per law,” said MMC Chairperson Shubhangi Vaingankar.
As per sources, the MMC had given contracts worth Rs 18 and Rs 11 lakh for collecting pay parking fees at the municipal market and old taxi stand, respectively. Although the civic body has issued show cause notice, motorists have claimed that the contractor is still charging the fees as per his whims and fancies.
