VASCO: Diversion of heavy traffic via Khariwada and relocation of stalls were some of the suggestions made at a meet convened by the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) with stakeholders on Monday to discuss arrangements for the famous Vasco Saptah.
MMC Chairperson Sunita Usgaonkar requested all stakeholders to cooperate with the council to organise the 115th Vasco Lord Damodar Saptah festival in an orderly manner.
Stating that the Vasco Saptah will be organised in a planned manner this year, Chief Officer YB Tavde displayed a detailed plan regarding the allotment of stalls, adding that each person would be allotted three stalls of an area of 2×2 sq metres.
“The stalls will be permitted a maximum height of three metres and after every 10 metres, there will be an access of two metres for the benefit of the pilgrims and residents who are residing within the Lord Damodar temple area,” said Tavde.
Tavde said this year the Swatantra Path road will be open for general public and traffic after seven days. Tavde said he has sought help of Vasco Police to keep a check on stalls in the open space on August 10 and 11.
Vasco Planning and Development Authority Chairman and City Councillor Krishna Salkar suggested the diversion of heavy vehicles via Khariwada road to reduce vehicular movement along the F L Gomes road during the seven-day fair.
He also suggested the pruning of trees along the Swatantra Path road to avoid any mishaps during the festival.
Electricity department executive engineer V Pillai requested the council not to permit stalls near transformers to avoid any casualty.
Former Mormugao mayor Paresh Joshi also suggested the diverting of heavy traffic via Khariwada during the seven days of Saptah so that F L Gomes road could be used for parking of two and four-wheelers.
Joshi suggested MMC could also use the bylanes right up to Gabmar Apartments near Axis Bank to erect stalls which can remain for the next 10 days.
