MARGAO: A building built on the edge of a hill at Chandrawado, Fatorda, has come under the scanner of the citizens and Margao Municipal Council.
While a citizen, Melvyn Fernandes, had lodged a complaint with the civic body stating that the building is built on the edge of the hill, the Margao Municipal Council has found that part of the building has been occupied without the occupancy certificate as required under section 188 of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
In the show cause notice issued by MMC Chief Officer, Naveen S L, the civic body has stated that the foundation of the building in question is exposed due to cutting of land, posing danger to the structural stability of the building. The notice further stated that the compound wall has been constructed in the parking area without obtaining the permission/approval from the council as required under the Act.
The chief officer has directed the owner to forthwith vacate the premises illegally occupied and submit a status of the structural stability of the building and to show cause within seven days from the receipt of the notice as to why action to revoke the license and pull down the building as unsafe should not be taken against him under the Municipalities Act.
