MMC planning to transport dry waste to GWMC for two months

MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council is now planning to transport 10 tonnes of dry waste on a daily basis to Goa Waste Management Corporation at Saligao plant for further treatment, after the fire incident reported on Friday. On Monday the civic body wrote a request letter to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) for the permission to transport the same. The plans of the Margao civic body are to transport the waste for the next two months.  As informed by Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer, the civic body has permission to transport the waste to the Saligao plant.  In the letter he stated that the electric high tension line of the power department got snapped, and created a major fire due to a short circuit at Sonsodo waste dumping site. Due to which the council cannot carry out baling of dry waste at Sonsodo treatment plant as the baling machines, and the electric transformer have been damaged due to fire.

“This council temporarily would like to send 10 tons of dry waste on a daily basis to GWMC for 60 days”, further stated.
