MARGAO: Taking a tough stand against tax defaulters, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday issued notices to around 72 financial institutions and directed them to provide a copy of their latest lease agreement.
According to MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes, the civic body has also asked them to give the details pertaining to signboards, ATMs, advertisement etc.
“Similarly, around 219 business premises are served with notices to produce the trade and occupation licences, copy of advertisement fees paid, number of additional business conducted and additional advertising boards displayed by them,” the CO said.
A seven days time period has been given to them to provide the information or apply for a fresh trade licence.
The CO also said that the recovery work is in full progress, as few have come forward to produce the copies of their latest lease agreements.
“The MMC had given enough buffer time and will now act tough with evaders and defaulters who owe to MMC,” he warned.
He said that the civic body wants all to do good business in Margao, being a commercial town.
