The initiative is mainly for employed women who travel at late hours and those living alone. The app has a ‘SOS button’ that will alert the police and a user’s call guardian via SMS and emails, even without dialing any number.
IGP Sunil Garg said the app is fitted with software that can automatically record a 20 second pre-alert audio stream and a post-alert 20 second video stream to be viewed by ‘call guardians’ on a secure webpage.
“By clicking on the SOS button, the phone will instantly dial the police control room and thereafter call guardians if the call to the police is not answered or disconnected. It has the capacity to record the user’s live battery and network signal strength which is displayed on the eye watch of the police control centre,” he explained.
This will be in addition to other online services – tenant verification, police clearance certificate and lost article report system – that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar will launch on Tuesday.
“The online system will enable a person to complain about any missing articles online or apply for verification certificates. The complainants will in turn get an automatically generated certificate with digital signature.”
