MAPUSA: The Moira gram sabha was on Sunday adjourned following verbal clashes between the gram sabha members and the panchayat body.
The trouble started when a gram sabha member Sheetal Narvekar accused panchayat member Lahu Thakur for removing her son Sahil, who was employed in the panchayat office.
As the two traded charges, one of the villagers video recorded the proceedings which annoyed the panchayat members, who objected to the recording.
Chaos and confusion reigned supreme and as the gram sabha members were in no mood to relent, sarpanch Sagar Naik adjourned the gram sabha.
Meanwhile, before the meeting was adjourned, seven different committees were elected as instructed by Bardez Block Development Officer (BDO). Sarpanch Naik stated that tenders to build a permanent shed to collect garbage were invited but since nobody the tenders will be reissued. The village panchayat currently has a temporary shed built in 300 square meters of land belonging to the Comunidade of Moira.
It was also decided to write to the police station regarding increasing the police patrolling in the village especially during night due to rise in the incidents of partying in public spaces and crating nuisance.
Deputy Sarpanch Juliet De Cunha and panchayat Sharmila Raul, Lahu Thakur, Santosh Chari, Frieda De Sa and Mohan Volvoikar were present.
Earlier, Sarpanch Sagar Naik welcomed the villagers and appealed to them to cooperate with panchayat body. Panchayat Secretary Istelina Fernandes read out the minutes of the previous gram sabha.
