PANJIM: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa on Thursday announced the arrival on monsoons in Goa and issued a heavy rainfall warning.
Speaking to Herald, IMD-Goa, Director, M L Sahu said, “The monsoon has reached Goa today. The wind is very strong and in the next 4-5 days we can expect good rainfall. A heavy rainfall warning has been issued and also due to strong winds and rough weather fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.”
The forecast is for moderate rain/thundershower at most places over Goa during the next five days. “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places on June 9 and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with very heavy rainfall at isolated places on June 10 to 12,” the IMD weather forecast states.
Fishermen are advised not to venture out to sea as winds will be south-westerly with speed of 45-50 kmph temporarily/momentarily reaching 60 kmph in gust/squall.
Heavy rainfall was recorded with Pernem recording 12 cms while Panjim recorded 9 cms. Mormugao recorded 5 cms, Ponda and Ela (Old Goa) 4 each, Mapusa, Canacona and Dabolim 3 each, Sankhali, Valpoi 2 each and lastly Sanguem, Margao and Quepem.
Forecast for Panjim in the next 24 hours is that few spells of rain/thundershowers will occur with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 29 and 24 degrees Celsius.
