Monsoon likely to pick up from today

With the formation of the shear zone along the Goa-Maharashtra coast, the monsoon activities might increase further towards the end of this week

PANJIM: After recording a 47 per cent rainfall deficit for the month of June, now the Southwest Monsoon activities are likely to pick up from Tuesday with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains.

With the formation of the shear zone along the Goa-Maharashtra coast, the monsoon activities might increase further towards the end of this week. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa observatory in charge Rahul said that State has witnessed 47 per cent deficit rains for the month so far in the absence of factors responsible for enhancing the monsoon system like the formation of the low-pressure areas, depressions, trough circulation, etc.  

As per the IMD, the normal average rainfall till June 21 is around 572.8 mm as against which the State has received only 304mm of rain till June 1.
