PANJIM: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rebuked Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai’s charge that only 8 per cent of the total employed at Mopa International Airport include Goans.
In a press statement, BJP Spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar said that Sardesai who is political opportunist and seeing his political irrelevance increasing, frustration is forcing him to create issues which are non-existing.
He explained that the figure 5,198 mentioned by Sardesai, is the number of workers working at airport construction site that includes labourers and semi-skilled workers and most of them with prior experience.
“These workers will be there till construction work is completed and will leave after completion of the airport,” he said.
Vernekar said that the Aviation Skill Development Centre, set up at the Mopa site, has started imparting skills/training to Goan youth to make them employable for the job opportunities as the airport becomes operational.
He said that the long term employment at the airport will be once it is commissioned and for same advertisements have been issued by the project proponent.
