More arrests ruled out in Fabindia Candolim voyeurism case

PANJIM: The Crime Branch sleuths have ruled out more arrests in the Fabindia, Candolim alleged voyeurism case for now; however, the company’s top officials could possibly be asked to depose again as investigations in the case continue.

“If required we may summon them for questioning again, but no arrests as of now,” a senior officer told Herald.
Nearly a fortnight after Union Minister Smriti Irani spotted a hidden camera facing the trial room at Fabindia’s Candolim outlet, Crime Branch sleuths have quizzed more than a dozen persons including Fabindia’s CEO Subrata Datta, MD William Bissel and others from the top management. Four staffers and store manager Chaitrali Sawant were arrested for the offence but granted bail out soon after.
The investigation team claims to have got clinching evidence against the culprits with one of the four employees caught on video footage shifting the position of the CCTV camera pointing towards the trial room.
While it is still not decided when the charge sheet in the case will be filed, the Crime Branch officials confirmed that Irani and two BJP MLAs – Michael Lobo and Dr Pramod Sawant – will be the main witnesses. The store’s computer hard disk which was seized soon after the expose will be sent for forensic test.
“Although our investigation is nearing completion, we will file a charge sheet after obtaining the forensic result of the hard disk. The evidence will be sent to FSL in the next one or two weeks,” the officer said. “We have strong evidence against the accused,” he added.
