More than half of the auctioned ore lying at jetties and lease sites: CM

Says falling international prices main reason that buyers are not interested in transporting the auctioned ore

PANJIM: Falling iron ore prices in the international market has been a prime reason for the buyers not being able to transport or export the e-auctioned ore, with more than half of the auctioned ore still lying at jetties and lease sites, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar admitted on the Floor of the House on Wednesday.  
Giving much needed relief to the truck owners, Chief Minister announced to abolish all the charges applicable for fitting Global Positioning System (GPS), for registration with Department of Mines and Geology and with Goa Electronics Limited (GEL).
Stating that the government is working towards ensuring that all the e-auctioned ore is moved out of the jetties and lease areas, Parsekar reiterated that the fresh extraction of ore would begin from October this year. “Government is committed towards immediate resumption of the mining activities and as announced earlier, mining will resume in October- the coming mining season,” he said.
Parsekar, also the Mines Minister, informed the Legislative Assembly that till date seven e-auctions have taken place, with the last one held on August 4.
