PERNEM: The Morjim special gram sabha held on Sunday passed a resolution prohibiting mega residential projects in the village.
The resolution was passed after the Devasthan Committee of Morjai Temple raised objection to a mega residential project coming up in survey number 254/24A of Morjim village. The committee in its complaint stated that if the residential project is allowed to come up in the village, it would affect the day to day routines of the temple as well as the village.
The committee was apprehensive that the residential project would accommodate outsiders and the same would increase the burden on the infrastructure in the village, which in turn cause huge problem for the villagers.
The locals also said that the village is already facing problems of water scarcity, power interruptions, garbage menace and has bad roads; under these conditions, if a residential project comes up in the village, then, the problems of the villagers would increase manyfold.
After a discussion, the gram sabha decided that this particular mega residential project would not be issued permission and no more residential projects would be allowed in the village.
