There are around 100 houses in Morlem that are not registered with the panchayat. To provide relief to such houses all over Goa, the previous government enacted a law for regularization of houses built illegally before the year 2014.
Following this, over 70 persons had filed applications to Morlem panchayat for regularization and allotment of house numbers. However, of these 70 applicants, only two have got house numbers till date.
Meanwhile, the government has issued a circular to panchayats to stop issuing house numbers. Upset at the government circular, the affected villagers sought to know from the panchayat why the government stopped issuance of house numbers
On this issue, the gram sabha passed a resolution directing the panchayat to write to the government seeking permission for issuing house numbers.
Other issues discussed at the gram sabha include incompletion of Anganwadi building, aging electric poles, lack of LED streetlights, poor condition of internal roads and preserving agricultural lands.
The gram sabha was attended by around 50 villagers.
