VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Bhavana Nanoskar was voted out of office by 13 councillors on Friday.
The councillors claimed that the chairperson was least concerned about them. The election for the new chairperson will be held on October 22.
The councillors alleged that the chairperson conducted herself immaturely and that the no trust motion was a serious review of the work done by the chairperson in the last two months.
Speaking before the no confidence motion was put to vote, Nanoskar said, “I have come here as I have nothing to hide and I feel that if I was wrong then let there be a vigilance and anti-corruption inquiry in to the works of the MMC for last 2 months.”
Replying to the outgoing chairperson, Councillor Krishna Daji Salkar said, “Thirteen councillors filing no confidence motion against her is not a joke. Our council is serious about the Vasco town and we now have two years to make up for the lack of development of Vasco and want to make the best of it.”
Councillor Kritesh Naik Gaonkar said, “Bhavana has shown her immaturity all through the two months of her chairmanship. The allegations she made against us are false and we are ready for vigilance inquiry. In fact, we too will go to vigilance and demand an inquiry.”
However, the former chairperson Deepak Naik and Councillor Yatin Kamurlekar, speaking at the meeting, said that moving a no confidence motion against the chairperson elected by this very group is wrong.
Meanwhile, Murari Bandekar and Kritesh Naik Gaonkar are the front runners for the post of chairperson. However, due to his close proximity with Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, Councillor Kritesh Naik Gaonkar has an edge over all other contenders.
