VASCO: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Vice President Sankalp Amonkar on Tuesday claimed that the Block Level Officers, Mamlatdar and Deputy Collector of Mormugao are working under tremendous political pressure. Due to this, around 800 voters’ names are being planned to be allegedly deleted from the electoral roll.
While addressing press conference in the Port Town, the GPCC vice president made strong allegations against the public officers claiming that they are doing their duty under tremendous political pressure.
Highlighting the issue of voters’ name deletion from the electoral list, Amonkar informed that as per his information around 800 names are being planned to be deleted from the electoral list allegedly at the behest of Urban Development Minister Milind Naik.
He opined that BJP is scared of losing in the forthcoming municipal election and to protect their interest deletion of electoral names are being done.
“I will not allow names deletion from the electoral roll,” Amonkar said.
Furthermore, he stated that there has been a misuse of power in deleting names of voters from electoral roll to benefit the BJP through the backdoor.
Amonkar appealed to the BLO, Deputy Collector and Mamlatdar to work in free and fair manner and not to cow down to any political pressure.
Giving more details about the issue Amonkar informed that on February 6, he had made an application to the President of India, Chief Election Officer Delhi and Election Officer in Goa objecting to the deletion of 1,251 names that were planned to be deleted. Further, he then took a morcha to the Mamlatdar and Collector offices and raised this issue.
“The people who had raised an objection on these names were mostly councillors but the BLO who is supposed to be the person in charge did not inform about the deletion of names,” he claimed.
Making a strong allegation, Amonkar said that the BJP had taken a lead to delete the names of the people who are not with the party. Today yet another 800 odd names have been put up for deletion at the behest of the BJP led councillors. While we have 20,000 of voters, 1,200 names were attempted to be deleted and this time another 800 names.
“Only names of the deceased or girl who has been married or a person opting for foreign national passport can be deleted otherwise people who are not found in the house has to be mentioned as shifted. Last time, the previous Mamlatdar had not deleted the names and since he did not listen to the minister, he was transferred,” claimed Amonkar.
