VASCO: Several months ago, a huge trench was dug along the road leading to Baina from Vasco town and the road leading to Bogda at Headland Sada for the construction of a concrete drainage. However, the work was left incomplete; metal rods are jutting out from these drains and are posing a threat to motorists and pedestrians. Upset with the lethargy of the authorities, the citizens have demanded immediate action in the matter.
According to information, the drainage works were initiated by Mormugao MLA Milind Naik as part of a road-widening project. The work started on war-footing, but the contractor abruptly stopped the same reportedly due to pending bills.
“It is sad that the contractor left the work without taking due care. More than five months have passed since the work has been stopped, and day by day the situation has been turning more dangerous for commuters. If the work is pending only due to unpaid bills, then it would have been better if the authorities had not taken up the project until the finance was cleared. Why is government is leaving people to face such a risk?” said Preetam Keluskar, a social worker and resident of Vasco.
During his visit to Mormugao constituency last month, MLA Milind Naik had raised the issue of the pending drainage work and the importance of completing the same as hundreds of commuters and pedestrians, including students, use the road daily.
