VASCO: The recent constituency visits of BJP Goa president Sadanand Shet Tanavade, in Mormugao taluka that ensued large gathering has raised eyebrows of locals and civil society members on the applicability of curfew rule, section 144, COVID SOPs etc.

Xencor Polgi, Mormugao based anti-coal activist, on Wednesday, released a video on social media stating that a year ago he was harassed and arrested by the local police citing that he was not wearing mask due to COVID pandemic. He has questioned the government that why there are separate rules from person to person. “When there are big processions, public gathering of political party during the curfew, why these political leaders and violators are not booked by the police,” he questioned.

Another, RTI activist from Sada, Damodar Divkar asked either to ease the curfew in force in the State or take strict action against violators of COVID-19 regulations. “Why religious functions like Gokul Ashtami Dahi Handi, Sarvajanik Ganeshshotsav including schools and colleges are kept closed but political road shows are allowed to celebrate with crowds?”asked Divkar.

Divkar claimed that such gatherings would invite third COVID 19 wave in Goa.

Parshuram Sonurlekar of Goa First NGO also mocked the road shows and recent public gatherings involving BJP leaders as a COVIDotsav and also pointed out that this Constituency visit by the BJP politicians and mixing with large number of people will bring third  wave in Goa.

“Most of the people  were not maintaining social distancing, not wearing masks either. Why they are not being booked and fined? Are the common man is being made scapegoat in this jumla?”asked Sonurlekar.
