VASCO: The temporary Mormugaomunicipal workers on Thursday demanded regularisation of their services.
The temporary workers met Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar and Mormugao chairperson GirishBorkar and told them that they have been working as temporary workers for the last many years and demanded that they be regularised in service. The feared that they could lose their jobs as there were reports that their services may be discontinued from next month.
Salkar and Borker assured them that they were the most important workers for the municipality and that no one will remove them from service. They said that these temporary workers are involved in keeping the port town clean and also do the odd jobs and working in most worst conditions in the municipality. Even many of them died while working as temporary workers, they said.
Salkar said that Urban Development Minister VishwajitRane hadassured him in the Legislative Assembly that the government will take all steps to get their services regularised.
