Quepem Municipal workers not paid wages for 3 months

QUEPEM: Quepem Municipality is in dire straits given the fact that salaries of the municipal workers amounting to around Rs. 61 lakhs has not been paid for the last three months.

The present situation has arisen as the Quepem Municipal Council has failed to collect the revenue due to it from those who have to pay it in their jurisdiction.

It is learnt that wages of around 48 permanent and temporary workers of the municipality amounting to around Rs 61 lakhs has not been paid.

Quepem Councillor Amol Kanekar said that the workers were not even paid anything for the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi as the workers have not been paid since July this year.

He squarely blamed Chairperson Suchita Shirwaikar of only being interested in recruiting family members of the councillors and demanded that she should resign from the office.

Councillor Jakina Dias lamented that the council has not taken any steps to pay the workers their wages for the last three months.

Chairperson Suchita Shirwaikar while admitting that wages have not been paid said they are trying to find a solution and added that this problem has arisen only because they have not received the revenue due to the council.
