They completed their ‘last lap’ of approaching voters via door-to-door visits, and all campaigning came to end at 5 pm. However, the candidates as well as the leaders backing them will continue to be under tremendous pressure until Sunday.
According to the voters, most of the wards will actually witness fights between only two or three strong contenders, and not every candidate.
Ward 1 will see a straight fight between BJP’s Shekhar Khadapkar and Sandesh Mesta, who is backed by the Vasco Development Front (VDF) of industrialist Narayan Bandekar. In Bhavana Bhosle (BJP) will face Rohini Parab (VDF) in Ward 2, Shanti Mandrekar (VDF) will face Shashikant Parab (BJP) in Ward 3, Damodar Kaskar (BJP) will face Avinash Naik (VDF) in Ward 4, Sarita Palkar (BJP) will face Manisha Girap (VDF) in Ward 5, Sachin Bhagat (VDF) will face Nilesh Navelkar (BJP) in Ward 6, and Shradha Amonkar (VDF) will face Nisha Chopdekar (Independent) in Ward 7.
Ward 8 will see a fight between Murari Bandekar (VDF), Ankush Parab (BJP) and Hemant Chodankar (Independent), while Ward 10 will see a fight between Sebastiao D’Souza (VDF), Leo Rodrigues (BJP) and Sajid Yakub Shaikh. Ward 10 has 16 candidates, but it was opined that the main fight will be between Jayant Jadhav (BJP) and Sayed Riyaz Kadri (VDF).
Saifullah Khan (VDF) will face Sandeep Narvekar of the Vasco Progressive Panel (VPP) in Ward 11, Deepak Naik (BJP) will face Prashant Naik (Independent) in Ward 12, Raj Lotlikar (Independent) will face Milton Barreto (VDF) and Krishna Salkar (VPP) in Ward 13, Lavina D’Souza (Independent) will face Monteiro Refina (Independent) and Fiola Rego (VDF) in Ward 14, Naresh Naik (VDF) will face Nandadeep Raut (VPP) in Ward 15.
Ritu Manesh Arolkar (Independent) will fight Rochana Borkar (VPP) in Ward 16, Anil Chopdekar (VPP) will face Pascoal D’Souza (VPF) in Ward 17, Sonia Bicholkar (VPF) will face Suchita Shriodkar (VDF) and Reema Sonurlekar (VPP) in Ward 18, Fredrick Henriques (VPP) will face Vishal Naik (VDF+VPF) in Ward 19, Rohinee Bandodkar (VPF) will face Vandana Satardekar (VPP) and Manisha Simepurushkar (VDF) in Ward 20, Rupesh Naik (Independent) will face Yatin Kamurlekar (VPP) and Tara Kerkar (VDF) in Ward 21, Rajan Fhaldesai (Independent) will face Arvind Shinde (Independent) in Ward 22, Shridhar Mardolkar (Independent) will face Swapnil Bandekar (BJP) and Viraj Bandekar (VDF) in Ward 23, Sarita Yogesh Kerkar will face Bhavna Nanoskar in Ward 24, while Kritesh Gaunkar will face Gracious Coutinho and Savio Noronha in Ward 25.
