PANJIM: BJP-led government’s decision to entrust infrastructural development work including construction of bridges to Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has not gone well with Congress, who alleged that the move is basically to raise funds for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Congress party said that there need not be any hurry in constructing the third bridge over River Mandovi provided the existing bridges are maintained. Government floated a tender for construction of third bridge.
Speaking to media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesman Jitendra Deshprabhu said that there is vested interest in entrusting the infrastructure development works to GSIDC instead of Public Works Department (PWD). “The move is basically to raise funds for the coming Lok Sabha polls. GSIDC is always in the news for awarding tenders to the highest bidder, instead of lowest,” he alleged.
Deshprabhu said that PWD should be involved in construction of bridges and not GSIDC. Speaking about third bridge over River Mandovi, Congress leader said that since the bridge would be constructed along NH 17, national highway authority’s permission is must, which government has not considered.
