Vasco: Both unions operating at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) – Goa Port and Dock Employees Union and Mormugao Port and Railways Workers Union – have served strike notice to paralyse the port on Wednesday.
“The strike is organised to stop the proposed move of the government to amend the labour laws. The amendment shall lead to exploitation of the working class and give monopoly to industrialists and corporates, which shall be detrimental to the interest of the working class and disarm the working class and prevent the workers from getting united to protect their legitimate rights ,” Mormugao Port and Railways Workers Union president A J Peters said.
He added, “The well-established laws gave protection to the working class but the present government at the centre is contemplating amendments that will destroy the working class to benefit a few,” he said.
